For the past two races Heather Rosas has never known the sight or taste of dust. She was victorious while leading EC to successive wins, but from the start of the race last Friday, she knew it was going to be a challenge. "I was going pretty hard (with the front pack), but they were pretty fast.
Sophomore Sal Bautista was spent - which is normal after any race, but this was by far, anything than usual - he wasn't alone. He and the men's cross country team finished 15th in their most demanding race yet this season last Friday at the Mt. SAC Invitational.
Squaring off against No.5 ranked Chaffey, the women's water polo team knew its chances were slim to none and were just hoping to score last Wednesday in a 11-2 loss. Considering Chaffey's ranking in SoCal, coach Corey Stanbury said its caliber is a lot better than EC's.
The last two weeks have been a roller coaster ride in the Mission Conference for the gridiron squad. The Warriors have endured tough games against both Riverside Oct. 18, and Fullerton Saturday. The Riverside game was a come-from-behind win, 26-7, and the loss to Fullerton, 35-24, fell just short of a miraculous comeback.
One word to describe the current run through the South Coast Conference by the women's volleyball team would be domination. The Warriors have yet to lose a game in any conference match this year. After sweeping matches against Pasadena City and East Los Angeles last week , EC pushed its conference record to 6-0 and 9-2 overall.
In a battle of conference foes, the women's soccer team (8-6-1,5-3-0 in SCC) was defeated by the No. 1 ranked Long Beach City College (13-1-0, 9-0-0 in SCC) 5-0 at Murdock Stadium Tuesday. Their next opponent will be Cerritos College in the Warriors' last home game of the regular season.
Emotions are still running strong for the men's water polo team despite its recent losses. The men's waterpolo team's most recent match was Wednesday against Rio Hondo. The team expects that Rio Hondo will be a tough match, but have confidence that they will be able to win their next meet.
Despite falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the men's soccer team beat Pasadena City 5-4 Tuesday and keeps playoff hopes alive with only three games left in the season. EC will host L.A. Harbor at Murdock Stadium tomorrow in its last home game of the season.
Kicking a ball isn't something you have to be taught to do. Nobody ever showed me how to run hard at a ball, draw my leg back and boot it as far as I could. Almost everybody can kick a ball. It's not an uncommon skill, like carving a statue or repairing a motor.
