Vocational funding survives

CONTINUING: Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act provides $130,000 for college.

Often debated by legislature, the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act has succeeded in providing the college with $130,000 in funding for vocational education, Dr. Thomas Fallo, college president, said. Future fire fighters, budding mechanics, aspiring architects and other students training for the various occupations need the support of the Perkins Act to continue their education.

Francesca Bishop, forensics adviser, said that the biggest success of this year's team was achieving its goal of winning the national championship.

Cheers from tired students were heard from the Academic Senate meeting Tuesday, after the body approved the proposed textbook policy, which is guaranteed to save students money. After lobbying for this proposal for some time, the Associated Student Organization's, ASO's, efforts have caused administration to pay attention to the rising cost of textbooks.

Drug dealing hits campus

Drug dealing on campus is a full-time job for dealers and a growing concern to students and faculty. Campus police are aware of the problem, but little has been done to correct it. Maryann Leiby, English professor, encountered a situation where two young men, possibly non-students, were parked in a handicapped space, waiting for their buyer.

Illegal immigrant caught with drugs Officers stopped a vehicle on Manhattan Beach Boulevard for expired registration tags. The driver pulled his vehicle into parking Lot C east near the bookstore. The driver said that he had no driver's license because he was an illegal immigrant.
